Karreman Racing
Dick Karreman (pictured) races a team of between 15-25 racehorses within New Zealand and Australia. A passionate racing man, Karreman’s racing team is managed by stud manager Rick Williams’ and is made up predominantly from The Oaks colts and fillies which either fail to make it to yearling sales or fail to meet their reserve, plus the occasional filly retained for breeding.
With Karreman’s blue & white silks an ever familiar sight at our local race meetings, New Zealand racegoers have enjoyed the pleasure of watching his star racehorses which include the likes of Seachange, Keeninsky, Keepa Cruisin, Magnetism, Chant, Diamond Deck, Roman Chariot etc together with current stars such as Smoulder, Obsession and Crossthestart.
Dick Karreman’s racetrack successes in 2007/08 and his contribution to both the New Zealand racing and breeding sectors, were aptly rewarded at the 2008 Mercedes Awards night, with Karreman called to the podium on five occasions to accept his awards.

In graciously accepting these accolades which included the ‘2008 Owner of the Year’ award, Karreman was sincere in wishing to share them with his team; Rick Williams, his staff at The Oaks, and the many trainers caring for his horses. He was also heartfelt in categorically praising New Zealand as “the best place in the world to breed champion racehorses.”
Ably led by his champion racefilly Seachange, Karreman’s racing team went through a true purple patch in recent years, and with that vintage team of horses retired the more recent period has been seen by both Karreman and Williams as something of a re-building stage. Some bright new lights among the Karreman team have since emerged, with Crossthestart winning the Brisbane Cup, three year olds Obsession and Show Up proving themselves stakes contenders and the juvenile filly Smoulder looking a great spring 3YO hope.
