Another solid sale for Darci Brahma at Karaka 2012

Darci Brahma’s third crop of yearlings averaged $94,000 at this year’s Karaka Premier session, giving breeders a tidy 4.7 return on the sire’s 2009 service fee of $20,000. His median selling price was $85,000In the Select session Darci Brahma’s yearlings averaged $62,875, a 3.1 return on service fee, with a select median selling price of $56,000.

As expected Singapore trainers were to the fore purchasing seven of the 22 Premier lots by Darci Brahma sold. Super Easy’s trainer Michael Freedman added a further two Darci Brahmas’ to his own collection, purchasing Lot 363 from the draft of Pencarrow Stud for $155,000. This colt being from Pavan (Centaine), runner-up in both the New Zealand Oaks and the Australasian Oaks.
Freedman’s other buy was Lot 48, a colt from the family of Wise Lass and Rationale sold for $70,000 out of Seaton Park’s draft.

Six-time premiership winning trainer Laurie Laxon took home three Premier lots by Darci Brahma. His buys included Lot 35 a colt from Pencarrow’s Woodman mare Afjan, purchased for $70,000; Lot 16 (pictured above) a half-brother to Kay’s Awake sold by Little Avondale Stud for $65,000; and Lot 439 a colt from the stakes winning/stakes producing mare Showtime (Famous Star), bought from the draft of Longlands Stud for $47,500.
Others Singaporeans to buy included ex-pat Australian trainer Cliff Brown who took home for $100,000 Lot 187, a colt whose second dam was the Auckland Cup winner Royal Tiara. Prominent owner Jerry Sung bought Lot 415, paying $60,000 for the colt closely related to Hong Kong group one performers Win Practitioner and Palette Natural.
Australian agents and trainers took home 14 of Darci Brahma’s progeny offered. Among the  buyers this year was Bede Murray, trainer of Darci Brahma’s top colt and leading AJC Australian Derby prospect Darci Be Good. Murray took two Darci Brahma colts home to his New South Wales stable, including Pencarrow’s Lot 436 out of the Sadler’s Wells mare Shopping Spree bought for $130,000. His other purchase coming from the Select draft of Highfields Bloodstock, Lot 614 a colt whose dam is a half-sister to former champion Canadian two-year-old Mercedes Won.
Victorian Mark Kavanagh who trains the promising Darci Brahma three-year-old Pakari Toa, bought Lot 75 for $100,000, a colt from the Montjeu mare Belleva, closely related to Cent Home, Studebaker and Ballet Society.

New South Wales trainer John O’Shea purchased Lot 392, (pictured) a colt from the multiple stakes winner Rapid Kay (Towkay) for $200,000.
Perth agent John Chalmers bought Lot 92 a Pencarrow colt from Boito Belle purchased for $70,000. This colt related to the good family of Winning Belle, Our Ella Belle, Finezza Belle etc.

David Ellis led the Kiwi buyers and finished the sale as leading buyer overall at Karaka. Responsible for buying Darci Brahma himself as a yearling, Ellis was successful this year in securing Lots 169 (pictured) a colt from The Oaks mare Dominant (Deputy Governor) for $140,000. This colt was seen by many to be almost a replica of Darci Brahma himself as a yearling.
Ellis also bought from The Oaks draft Lot 249, a colt from The Oaks mare In Essence (Fusaichi Pegasus) for $135,000. This colt descending from the great number 9 family of champions Octagonal, Habibti, Danewin etc.

Paul Moroney picked out Lot 336 (pictured) a colt out of Monashees from the family of Altrista, Aylnda, Fast ‘n’ Famous etc, securing him for $100,000 from the draft of Little Avondale Stud, while Frank Ritchie paid $80,000 for Lot 383 a colt from the family of Sarwatch and Riverina Charm.

Karaka 2011:  A strong second year sale for Darci Brahma

Hallmark Stud’s Lot 438. The Darci Brahma half-sister to Gee I Jane was purchased by leading buyer Rick Connelly for $625,000

Darci Brahma’s 19 Premier colts and fillies sold up to $625,000 at last weeks New Zealand Bloodstock national yearling sale.
His 2011 premier average of $126,500 a healthy four-times that of his 2008 service fee of $30,000. view results
With his average down slightly from the $140,000 achieved in 2010, The Oaks general manager Rick Williams was happy with this year’s result, citing ‘as expected’ the second year dip.
“We’re very pleased overall, year two is always tough - but they stood up well. They still showed a very good return on the service fee, and once-again his progeny are heading to some top stables,” said Williams.
Among those who did purchase Darci Brahma’s yearlings at Karaka last week, were  the sales leading buyer Rick Connelly, David Ellis of Te Akau Racing, and leading bloodstock agents Bruce Perry, Paul Beamish and Michael Wallace.
The successful bidders amongst the trainers included leading Singapore trainers Laurie Laxon (purchased 3) and Michael Freedman (2), plus Hawkes Racing and Aquanita Racing from Australia.
New Zealand trainers to buy included John Sargent (2), Peter McKay, Lance Noble, Donna Logan, Lisa Latta and Bob Vance.

With his first crop two year olds already in Australasia’s leading stables, it is the coming spring that owners and trainers are eagerly looking ahead to.  Though he has already left exciting juveniles such as John Sargent’s colt Super Easy and Lee Freedman’s colt Chateauneuf Dupape, both who went a terrific race in the Karaka Million, the excitement for many has always been contemplating what his progeny might achieve as spring three year olds and beyond.
“As three year olds we’re going to see just what Darci Brahma is capable of achieving as a sire, said Williams.  It's likely that this year’s sale could soon reflect some very good buying for those who took the punt and purchased his progeny.”

High Chapparal the best recent example of second crop value!!!

The Oaks Stud’s Lot 456. The Darci Brahma half-brother to Maluckyday was purchased by Hawkes Racing for $300,000
With two outstanding crops to have already sold at Karaka, Darci Brahma will have two further exciting drafts heading to Karaka in 2012 and 2013. Williams reports the book of mares bred by him last year as yet another top quality book, numbering 110 mares.
