Sakhee’s Secret follows his northern sales success with a solid sale at Karaka 2012
After averaging close on £30,000 over the Doncaster, Goffs and Tattersalls sales series in the United Kingdom, there was great anticipation amongst vendors as to how the first southern bred crop of Sakhee's Secrets yearlings would be received.
On the opening morning of Premier it quickly became clear there were some very good judges chasing his stock, and the feedback received throughout the sale was positive regarding the Sakhee’s Secrets colts and filly’s, his stock impressing people with their big walks and athleticism.
Sakhee’s Secret averaged $86,000 in the 2012 Premier Sale, a healthy return of 5.7 times his 2009 service fee of $15,000. His Premier sale median was $60,000.

Leading Victorian trainer Mick Price got the ball rolling for Sakhee’s Secret with a winning bid of $180,000 for
Lot 29 (pictured), the Oaks bred colt from Zabeel mare Zaabi.
The sales leading buyer David Ellis followed up by purchasing the Oaks bred Sakhee’s Secret filly from Zabeel mare Zaria,
Lot 30 (pictured) for $100,000.
Well known Australian agent Damon Gabbedy purchased
Lot 345, a Sakhee’s Secret half-brother to The Oaks former top filly Obsession (Bachelor Duke) for $52,500.
New Zealand Bloodstock purchased
Lot 228 (pictured) for $120,000 on behalf of Hong Kong buyers. This colt out of Grove Nymph was offered by Cambridge Stud, and the dam is a half-sister to Field Dancer and Just a Dancer.
Sakhee’s Secrets Select Sale results saw him average $40,000 (2.7 times his service fee). A good result, when considering his overall figures like many others were impacted by the lower demand this year for Select filly’s.
Prominent among the Select buyers was Robert Smerdon representing Aquanita Racing. Smerdon purchased Sakhee’s Secrets top priced Select colt,
Lot 910 (pictured), a strong precocious Karaka Million sort from The Oaks Volksraad mare Miss Smugg, which went for $160,000.
Others to purchase Sakhee’s Secrets Select yearlings included Roger James, Paul O’Sullivan (HK), Nigel Tiley, Iskander Racing (AUS), Allan Sharrock, Kevin Hughes, Ginger Tankard, and Adrian Clarke.
Crossed with a wide range of mares in New Zealand, and Sakhee’s Secret himself having a mix of both speed and stamina in his own pedigree, the general consensus among buyers was that he will leave amongst his progeny sharp precocious types as well as the classic Derby/Oaks colts and fillys.
In the United Kingdom Sakhee’s Secret has 93 first-crop two-year-olds to represent him this year. He is expected to figure prominently on the first season sires table there, and has a number of his progeny in the stables of the well regarded juvenile trainers such as Richard Hannon (5), Hughie Morrison (4), Richard Fahey (2), Brian Meehan, Paul Cole etc.
