Good time at Te Awamutu

Cambridge trainer Ralph Manning has every reason to be looking at
a return to Te Awamutu for his four-year-old Rocking Good Time.

Rocking Good Time, a son of Roc De Cambes Manning races with friend and loyal stable supporter Tony Coombe, picked up his second win from 13 starts when taking the Fairview Motors 2000 on the Waipa course last Sunday.

Rocking Good Time’s other win, two starts earlier, also came at Te Awamutu over the same 2000-metre distance.

Between the two wins Rocking Good Time finished fifth at Avondale and the winner that day was Whopper’s, who followed up with a close second to Valante in the John F. Grylls Memorial Classic later on last Sunday’s programme.

Rocking Good Time’s best placings in his first 10 starts was a fourth and a couple of fifths, but he has taken the step up this winter as a promising stayer.

A top ride landed Rocking Good Time his maiden win by a short head last month, however he had more to spare at the finish of Sunday’s event.

In the hands of Matt Cameron, he got home by three lengths from Summer Warrior.

Rocking Good Time was bought by Manning for $8000 from the 2015 Festival Yearling Sale at Karaka and hails from the same family as Gr.1 Railway Handicap runner-up Gwen’s Rules, whose nine wins included the Listed Lightning Stakes at Trentham.

Rocking Good Time’s dam, A Flamingood Time, is a Keeper half-sister to The Pumper, who was runner-up in the Gr.3 Wellington Stakes and won five races, including a couple at Flemington.
