Local trainer Terri Rae will have strong representation at Riccarton on Saturday, and she is hoping to reward her clients with a couple of winners’ cheques.
The Oaks Stud filly Cashla Bay scored a deserved victory over 1400m when fresh-up at the Christchurch track last month and she will attempt to repeat that result in Saturday’s Listed NZB Insurance Stakes (1600m).
The daughter of U S Navy Flag was denied black-type by just one placing when running fourth in the Listed NZB Airfreight Stakes (1400m) at Wingatui on Boxing Day, and she will be seeking to rectify that this weekend.
“She is pretty consistent and honest,” Rae said.
“She had a good win last start, which is ideal going into the mile. She is getting over ground for the first time, which doesn’t pose as any problem. She has got a reasonable draw (6), her work is good and she is fit and well.”
All going to plan, Cashla Bay will return to Riccarton in a fortnight where she will step up in distance once more in the Listed New Zealand Bloodstock Warstep Stakes (2000m).
“We are thinking she should be fine (to back-up in the Warstep), but obviously we will get through Saturday first,” Rae said.
